The Build Story
The BMW E81 was one of Mat's earliest projects — a cheap 1 Series 3-door hatchback bought from salvage. Like the Audi TT and Golf GTI before it, this was a budget build that proved the formula: buy damaged, fix it up, and document every step.
The E81's rear-wheel drive chassis made it a fun platform despite modest power. It was a stepping stone in Mat's early career — building skills and audience before tackling more ambitious projects.
