Mat bought an abandoned E46 BMW M3 that had spent most of its life being abused on track for over a decade. The car was incredibly cheap but needed serious work — the 3.2L S54 inline-six required new rod bearings, and the interior was worn out from years of track use.
The restoration included new rod bearings for the S54 engine, a complete interior colour-swap to black leather from a donor car, and AMG brake calipers. The Laguna Seca Blue paint was retained, giving the finished car iconic E46 M3 looks.
The completed car was inspected by Richard Hammond's restoration shop, The Smallest Cog, in a DriveTribe feature. Hammond's team checked the exterior, interior, engine, exhaust and mechanicals — and concluded Mat had done an excellent job saving the car from the scrapyard.
