The 2019 Aston Martin Vantage was Mat's greatest risk at the time — a Category S write-off bought for £54,000 with significant front-end damage, deployed airbags and a torn steering wheel. Despite the damage, the car had only 14,000 miles on the clock and the Mercedes-AMG 4.0L twin-turbo V8 was largely undamaged.
The rebuild revealed interesting construction details — the Aston Martin used a Mercedes engine, Citroën/Peugeot electrical switches, and various other cross-manufacturer components. Mat documented the entire 3-hour-38-minute restoration in a full-build compilation. The finished car produced over 600 hp and Mat described the project as something he never imagined tackling when he first started rebuilding cars with an Audi TT.
